Charlotte County, Florida.
Charlotte County is where the Gulf Coast's boating lifestyle meets small-town charm. Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda offer some of the region's best water access, canal-front neighborhoods, and, in Punta Gorda, one of Florida's most inviting historic downtowns.
Canal Living, Harborside Ease.
Port Charlotte is the largest community in Charlotte County and its practical heart. It was developed as a planned waterfront community, and today an extensive network of canals threads through its residential neighborhoods, putting saltwater access within reach of thousands of homes. For many residents, the boat lives at the dock behind the house, and Charlotte Harbor is a short cruise away.
The pace here is easygoing and family oriented. Everyday shopping, dining, and services line US-41, while the county government's Murdock campus anchors employment nearby. Charlotte Sports Park, the spring training home of the Tampa Bay Rays, brings a friendly baseball buzz to the community each February and March.
Port Charlotte is a good fit for buyers who want water in the backyard, room for a boat, and a laid-back routine without the crowds of the bigger tourist towns.
Historic Downtown, Harbor Living.
Punta Gorda is Charlotte County's county seat, settled in the 1880s on the south shore of the Peace River. Its compact historic downtown offers boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and galleries beneath live oaks and palms, with a relaxed, old Florida character that's hard to find elsewhere on the coast.
The Punta Gorda Harborwalk stretches roughly two and a half miles along the waterfront, linking Gilchrist Park, Laishley Park, Trabue Park, and Fishermen's Village, a lively marina complex of shops, dining, and boat cruises. Park a car and wander the day away, then finish at a restaurant watching the sun set over the water.
Boating is a way of life here. Charlotte Harbor is Florida's second-largest open-water estuary, and the Peace River, Myakka River, and the Gulf of Mexico are all within reach, which makes Punta Gorda one of the region's true boating towns.
